Selective Amnesia Collection

If you are in the mood for some delicious coffee or amazing Portuguese pastries, please visit Cafe St Jorge at 3438 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94110

You'll also find a few of my pieces there as well! There is a collect of work from the series Selective Amnesia (I Miss SF). This series features obsolete technology, endangered animals, and extinct businesses. Since the pandemic, there has been a major shift and significant loss in the small business community. With this work, I'm paying homage to some of the places I loved and now miss.

In Smile, Cliff, I memorialized the San Francisco institution. the Cliff House. This historic restaurant was perched on the edge of Ocean Beach, offer diners exquisite meals paired with breathtaking views. The future of the Cliff House remains uncertain. Also featured in this work is the endangered, aye aye, from Madagascar.

Bold Colors Juried Exhibition

eafroyalmaki.jpg

One of pieces was selected to be displayed at SFWA Gallery’s juried exhibition, Bold Colors!

The now defunct Hemlock Tavern holds a special place in my heart because it was the first place my old band, Hot IQs, played in San Francisco. Maki, a stolen and returned lemur from the SF Zoo, is also featured. This piece is part of a series called I Miss SF (Selective Amnesia). With this work, I'm paying homage to some of the places I loved and now miss.

Art Matters-Juror’s Choice Winner

I'm so excited to announce that my piece, Selective Amnesia, was awarded the Juror's Choice award for the upcoming Art Matters exhibition at SFWA Gallery! Please visit Art Matters- sfwomenartists.org for more information about this amazing show!

eafselective.jpg

Selective Amnesia features Amnesia, a beautiful bar that used to be located on Valencia in the Mission. Amnesia was one of the last places we visited before the pandemic started. The animal in this piece is the endangered proboscis monkey from Southeast Asia.

Arc Gallery “HOME” National Juried Exhibition

AcostaFord_AgeofAquarius.jpg

I'm so happy to announce that one of my pieces was selected to be part of Arc Gallery's upcoming National Juried Exhibition, HOME.

My homes have included Queens, Grove City, La Junta, London, Denver, and a few other places in between. For over the last eleven years, longer than I have lived anywhere else, I have been fortunate enough to call beautiful and magical San Francisco my home.

Here is more on Age of Aquarius (from the series Selective Amnesia) :

This work features Aquarius Records, the first record store we visited when we moved to San Francisco over a decade ago, and which no longer exists. The endangered Sumatran Orangutan from Southeast Asia is depicted in this work.

I will be participating in the HOME Artists Talks via Zoom on Wednesday, May 19th, 6-7PM Pacific Time Zoom

From Sand Dunes to Forest: Canopy Trees of Golden Gate Park

Happy 150th anniversary to @goldengatepark! This piece was selected to be part of the From Sand Dunes to Forest: Canopy Trees of Golden Gate Park art exhibit this summer. The exhibit has been transformed into an online show, which is dedicated to the beauty and splendor of the park.

https://www.sfbg.org/ggp150artexhibit.

The photo (I didn’t include all the incredible trees!) that inspired this piece was shot at my first Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in 2010. There were so many amazing musicians, including the late, great Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Elvis Costello, Conor Oberst, and Patti Smith. The following year, my favorite performance was by Broken Social Scene. One day, I hope to attend this special event again!

Hi, How Are You Project Day

Wolfie, Tyler, and I created this piece for the Hi, How Are You Project show in Austin, TX on Jan, 22 at the Moody Theater. The Hi, How Are You Project was inspired by Daniel Johnston's art and music. Jan 22 is the birthday of the late, great artist. Our piece is titled Daniel Dreams of Motorcycles.

The project’s goal is to recognize our collective ability to stamp out the stigma around mental health with easy conversations with friends and family. Please check them out and support them! https://hihowareyou.org/

The
Hi How Are You Project Day show featured Tunde Adebimpe from TV on the Radio, Spoon, White Denim and more!

Dolores Huerta Elementary Renaming Ceremony

On Friday, May 17, 2019, Dolores Huerta, iconic civil rights activist and labor leader, was honored at a ceremony renaming Fairmount Elementary School as Dolores Huerta Elementary. SFUSD an city leaders, students and families, and community members were in attendance. During the ceremony, the students sang their hearts outs and the ribbon was cut. Dolores Huerta inspired the enthusiastic crowd with her powerful and beautiful words. I feel so fortunate to have been there to witness it all.

Below are photos of the joyous occasion. Included are images of a mural I had the privilege of creating to commemorate the event. I will post more photos of the final version soon.

I have a long list of people to thank:

Thank you to Maria Clayton. Maria invited me to work on this epic project. She held my hand each step of the way-rain or shine. There was a lot of rain. Her assistance included solving all the challenging equations that enabled me to recreate the 8 x 20 mural from a page in my sketch book. Her emotional support was essential. As was her creative and technical mural painting skills.

Thank you to Tyler Ford for dealing with me over the last seven months or so (well last 13 years:). You’ve been listening to me, comforting me post freak outs, doodling, and being the sweetest and most supportive husband. Also, he took some beautiful photos at the ceremony.

Thank you to Wolfie Ford for all the hours of painting, cuddling, cracking me up, sketching, and beyblading by the mural.

Thank you to the students and staff of Dolores Huerta Elementary School. Thank you for your encouragement, feedback, patience, and spirit!

Thank you to Dolores Huerta for prioritizing the helping of others and being the role model that future female (male as well) leaders really need right now, in this current political atmosphere. Also, thank you for signing my mural.

Thank you to Maritza Refuerzo (and the rest of the Name Change Committee) for all the encouragement, faith in us, and kind words along the way. In addition, she connected me to the amazing 4th Graders.

Thank you 4th Graders for sharing and contributing sketches of their future goals. I wish I could have included every part of everyone’s incredible drawings.

Thank you to Luis Rodríguez, Director, for believing in us, green lighting the project, and giving us the freedom to create without any boundaries.

Thank you to Yuri Sanchez for all her patience and assistance with ordering supplies, and returning supplies. And for allowing us to raid and borrow her supplies and space.

Thank you to Marina Sullivan for letting us borrow the projector several times.

Thank you to Reina Mira for all her help with painting.
